The devil is in the details

"Fashion is what you are offered 4 times a year by designers and style is what you choose " Lauren Hutton

Yes, we are all exposed to the same collections from designers every year and yet, how we style these garments is what makes all the difference. Nothing inspires me more than seeing someone who is pushing the fashion boundaries. It is so easy to get lost in a sea of stylish people so, being yourself unapologetically, will set you apart from the rest of the crowd.

This is why I think accessories are the real style superheroes. Even if you are wearing the same old black dress as the rest of the world; what you add to that dress will ultimately make people sit up and take note. I love the idea of an over the top bag or a pair of unexpected shoes. Even a bright pop of colour or a few stacked rings.

The beauty of it all is that anything goes. If you have the confidence to pull off a look; nothing else really matters. Go forth and slay!

Review: Revlon MegaLash lengthening mascara

By now I am sure everyone is sick of hearing what an ordeal having conjunctivitis  (pink eyes ) was for me. Trust me it was; but on a positive note it made really consider what I was putting on my eyes on a day to day basis. As you can imagine I was delighted to find a mascara for sensitive eyes made by one of my favourite brands.

What it says on the tube
*extra defining formula lengthens and conditions lashes
*long lasting
*clump free, smudge free, fragrance free
*opthalmologist tested; suitable for contact lens wearers

What I think
I am not sure if it's  my imagination or not but my eyes feel way more sensitive than before the pink eyes. I have been using this mascara for a little while now and I have to say that I am thoroughly pleased. Not only does it apply beautifully; it also stays on all day. I wore it to our staff party recently and it survived countless hours of sweaty dancing. I also love the brush and how it reaches even the smallest lashes. There is no doubt that I would definitely repurchase this mascara. Overall I give it a 9/10. It retails for about R135.

Have you used this mascara yourself?  What mascara are you currently using?I'd love to hear from you guys.

AMA red carpet fashion

I always get super excited when any award show rolls around. I love seeing everyone on the red carpet; seeing who got it right and who should reconsider their stylist.

The fashion at the American Music Awards are some of my favourite as I am usually pleasantly surprised and shocked. In this post I have gathered a few of my favourite looks of the night. As I have already mentioned, the stars did not disappoint.

Bloggers I adore

While being hauled up with conjunctivitis  (pink eyes )  for almost two weeks a while back,I was searching for ways to stay sane. After binge watching season 1 and 2 of Fashion Bloggers and loading up on carbs, I realized just how much I am inspired by bloggers. Fashion bloggers in particular.

As we near the end of 2015 I reflect on how my style has changed over the past year. From lacking confidence and spending most of my time in pyjamas, to realizing that fashion should be fun and being stylish should not be hard labour. Yes 2015 has made me embrace and celebrate my body. There have been times when I ventured into new style territory and failed miserably. I look at these times as learning curves. Other times I have strayed from my comfort zone and ended being pleasantly surprised. I have been really proud of myself this year.

One thing is for sure, my style is constantly evolving and with the new year comes new style icons I admire. In this post I have gathered my favourite bloggers right now. Feel free to share some of your's with me.

 *Micah Gianelli

This lady is a bombshell. All of her looks are amazing and so striking. I only discovered Micah's blog recently but I am glad I did. This Australian born blogger is also a model and stylist.

 *Aimee Song

This has to be my favourite blogger of all time. She does both designer looks and street style unlike anyone I have ever seen. Most of her looks seem really accessible which only inspired me more. From ripped jeans to flowing gowns, there is nothing I don't love about this blog.

Street style at its best. Sheryl Luke from a Walk in Wonderland  effortlessly fuses her ripped denims with more refined, designer pieces. I love both her winter and summer looks and the way she makes even basics seem sophisticated. This LA based blogger predominantly blogs about fashion but also adds lifestyle and beauty every now and then.

 * Sarah Donaldson

What is not to love about Sarah's Harper&Harley blog. She focuses mainly on black, white and grey looks but has also incorporated some decor and fitness looks to her blog. Her clean and sleek looks are both accessible and inspiring.

*Margaret Zhang

Now this is what I call a Jack of all trades. Not only is she a fashion blogger and creative director, she is also a photographer  (she also photographs herself) and has modelled in major campaigns such as Swarovski. I am obsessed with her signature flat lays and her slightly out of the box style. Check out Margaret on her blog www.shinebythree.com

Review: Freeman's chocolate and strawberry clay mask

When you are a working mom pampering is the last thing on your to do list. However, every now and then I manage to squeeze in some me time. Recently I bought a really amazing clay mask at Dischem and, whenever I get the opportunity, I indulge in this yummy mask.

Firstly, the packaging is quite festive. The bright red tube instantly puts me in a good mood. And the smell, my word! I have to remind myself not to lick my face so frequently.

The texture has got to be one of my favourite aspects of this mask. It's a smooth lightweight formula that goes on your face easily. All you need is a thin layer over your whole face so you only use a little bit of product. Bonus: you get to use it for longer. I usually leave it on for about ten minutes before rinsing. Just as promised on the tube, my face is wonderfully moisturized and toned afterwards.

I am thoroughly impressed by this mask. Overall I give it an 8/10 and I am definitely going to repurchase. I bought my Freeman's mask at Dischem on sale for R50 but they usually retail for about R74. Are you using any of the Freeman masks? I would love to hear from you.

Boys will be boys.

Over the last few months I have become a lot more interested in men's fashion. In the past, when I thought of fashion, for some reason I always had females in mind.

My excitement (and interest) grew when I started noticing that my brother and cousins were all developing their own individual style and they were not shying away from expressing and documenting that style. I often share it on my social media pages.

Over the last year or two I have noticed a rise, not only in male street style stars, but in male fashion bloggers as well. And, while it might not be as prominent as female fashion blogging yet; its definitely becoming a force to be reckoned with.

I often get asked why I don't post more men's fashion and inspiration on my blog and the honest truth is that I frequently forget that some guys are just as interested in style as women are. With that in mind, I gathered a few of my favourite looks to hopefully serve as massive inspiration to male readers. If you have a stylish guy in your life, please share this post with him.
I would love to hear from you.

Grey area

For the longest time I have been obsessed with the colour grey. Ranging from décor to nail polish and now even fashion; I love it all. Paired with either brights or pastels, grey is anything but boring. I am super excited to try a few grey looks this season, even though I am not exactly sure how I am going to go about this.
Which is why this post comes in handy, I have decided to explore the internet in the hopes of finding my perfect grey area. From celebs to street style sweethearts; everyone is indulging in the colour.  Here’s to hoping we are all inspired immensely!
