The 89th Oscars- The Fashion

Last night marked the 89th Oscars, and while the night was all about film, the fashion did not disappoint either. There were a few looks that I adored like Jessica Biel and Janelle Monae and a few that I wish had stayed at home (yes Dakota Johnson).

Here are a few of my favourite and not so favourite looks. Who got your vote for best and worst dressed? I would love to know.

Felicity Jones in Dior.

Emma Roberts in Armani Prive

Chris Evans in Salvatore Ferragamo.

Mahershala Ali in Zegna.

Chrissy Teigen in Zuhair Murad.

Dev Patel in Burberry

Jessica Biel in Kaufman Franco.

Hailee Steinfeld in Ralph & Russo.

Janelle Monae in Elie Saab

Taraji P Henson in Alberta Ferretti.

Emma Stone in Givenchy
I was a little underwhelmed by a few looks as well. I was definitely expecting a little more from Priyanka Chopra. Her Ralph &Russo gown was just awkward. Here are a few more looks that didn't quite reach the mark for me.

Priyanka Chopra in Ralph &Russo.

Brie Larson in Oscar de la Renta.

Naomie Harris in Calvin Klein.

Charlize Theron in Dior.

Salma Hayek in Alexander McQueen.

Scarlett Johansson in Azsedine Alaia.

Dakota Johnson in Gucci

In my opinion the best dressed goes to Hailee Steinfeld and Janelle Monae and the worst.....definitely Dakota Johnson. Yikes! What do you think?

Love is On

There is nothing I love more than buying something and being able to keep it as a souvenir when the product is finished. That was exactly the case when I bought this Revlon Love Is On fragrance. As you might have realised by now, I have alot of love for Revlon products, however I really wanted to be objective about this fragrance. I didn't want to glorify it because I love the brand overall. Let's talk about the scent.

Obviously the packaging is what caught my attention in the first place. I find the heart-shaped bottle both endearing and charming. I love the idea of it being a keepsake. So even if it finishes, I get to display the gorgeous bottle. This also means that the fragrance would make the perfect gift.

What I love about the scent is that its captivating but, not overpowering. Unlike a lot of the headache inducing scents I have come across over the years. It's the kind of fragrance that lingers long after you have applied it. Some of the notes include berry, citrus, sandalwood, vanilla and musk.

I bought the fragrance not knowing how much I would enjoy it. It makes me feel both flirty and sensual at the same time. It retails for R399.00 and is definitely a fragrance I would repurchase. How about you? Have you used the Love Is On fragrance before? What are your thoughts? I would love to hear from you.

Style crush : Monica Rose

When I was younger it didn't occur to me that most celebrities had stylists. Naively, I was under the impression that they all had impeccable style. Naturally, when I started noticing the Kardashian/Jenner girls' style I assumed it was all their own doing all the time. Little did I know that they had a secret weapon. It wasn't really until I heard about Rachel Zoe that I really began to understand what a stylist was and what they did.

Monica Rose, an L.A. based stylist, is not only famous for styling the reality stars, but also has a multitude of other celebrity clients such as Gigi Hadid and Chanel Iman. She is known for her dramatic monochromatic looks in subdued colours such as white, black, grey and tan. Chances are if you spot someone in a striking minimalistic look it was styled by Monica Rose.

However, I was alot more interested in the stylist and mom's personal style. To be the mastermind behind so many iconic and well documented looks must mean that her own style is interesting to say the least. Monica describes her own style as "tomboyish and effortless " and sites Bianca Jagger, Jane Birkin and Kate Moss as her style icons.

She has been styling since 2003. Mind you, back then I wasn't paying much attention to fashion nor did I know that being a stylist was an actual occupation. Her looks has become some of the most coveted and most photographed over the years. I know every time Kim, Kendall or Kylie steps outside, I am anxious to see what they will be wearing .  It has been amazing discovering who the powerhouse behind these looks are. Not only does Monica Rose inspire with the the clients that she styles but, I also love her laid back, ever- evolving style. I can't wait to see what the future looks like for this lady.

Stylists often go unnoticed in the shadows of these colossal celebrities they style which is why I am happy to see the world recognising the creative brains behind some of the most loved and most copied looks. Who is your favourite stylist? I would love to hear from you!

The Glow Up

I've decided that 2017 is the year of the glow up. It's the year of letting my hair grow, eating my veggies, staying hydrated and finding numerous ways to look after myself. Another important thing to me is having a good foundation. To be honest, when my foundation isn't looking good I feel really self conscious. I'm sure you can relate. After trying a few different foundations over the years, I think I have finally found the perfect one.

I recently bought Loreal Infallible 24H Matte foundation and I have not regretted it for one day. The texture is perfect for those sweaty summer days and the matte finish is what caught my attention. There is nothing worse than looking shiny half way through the day. The number 32 shade ( Amber) suites my skin colour brilliantly and the high coverage means I only have to apply a little bit. It retails for R190 for a 35ml tube however, it lasts a really long time so it's actually worth it. I bought mine early December and it is still not finish.

My other favourite is a highlighting stick that I received as a freebie in the the Glamour SA magazine.  I love highlighter but, I have only used the powder formula. I was really excited to try this one. The creamy stick formula ensures that you are able to blend easily. You are also in complete control because the stick is super buildable. This means you can add as much glow as you want to or you can keep it at a minimum for a subtle glow. I have been using it every day for the last week and I adore it.

Resolutions aside, what are some of the things that you would like to achieve this year when it comes to your health. How do you plan on looking after yourself this year? I would love to hear from you.

Life begins at...Sobriety?

That seems to be the case for me. Let me start by saying, had it not been for a near death experience, I would certainly not be writing this...
