LIFE : Looking forward to the new year

Hi everyone and welcome to my first look post for 2023! Last year I decided that I would post more look posts regardless of how I felt about it. This was what I was wearing for the last day (Saturday) of 2022 and I spent the day just hanging out at my mom's house.

I absolutely love this dress especially because it has shoulder pads. Dresses are really easy to dress up or down which is why it is always my go-to. This one also has a detachable belt which is an added bonus. No doubt I will be spending alot of time in this dress.

I decided to add the printed gladiator sandals and bag to bring a bit of colour to the chocolate brown dress and, because we spent the day at home, I decided that gold hoops as the only accessories would suffice. I loved how I felt in the whole outfit and I think my braided hair added to the easy casual vibe.

I am slowly but surely getting back into the swing of things. I'm working out so I feel a lot better in the clothes I wear and I am not focused on what other people think anymore. 2023 is definitely the year for exploring and having fun with fashion and I look forward to that. Look post: Xylon Kenzo

The other day I did a quick little photo shoot with my favorite person in the world. Xylon is at the age now where he wants to pick out his own clothes and I am having so much fun seeing how his style is developing. I tend to not focus to much on where I buy his clothes but, rather on the quality. I also love matching sets because its really easy to throw on. Usually we would put a denim jacket over this set depending on the weather.

I really love how these turned out especially since I took them on my phone. The kid clearly enjoys being in front of the camera

Black Friday

Just a little throwback look post to what I wore on Black Friday. Yes, I was working so I didn't spend much time looking for bargains. Nevertheless,  I guess  I still saved money either way.

Pencil me in.

I live for pencil skirts. They are just about the only kind of skirts I can wear without looking frumpy. When your behind is as big as mine you dont take chances looking frumpy. 

However, pencil skirts are often associated with the more formal or corporate world and its not an item you would consider to be casual. But fashion leaves nothing untouched. I love the idea that a pencil skirt can be dressed up or down. This post is dedicated  to finding ways to making the pencil skirt an everyday item instead of only for the office.

Denim anything is the perfect way to bring some casual into your wardrobe. And a plaid shirt; but tuck it in to give you that carefree but polished look.

Or try a bad ass leather skirt and take it a step further with a leather jacket.

If its slightly chilly outside pair your pencil skirt with a shirt and sweater. Side note: how cute is this skirt?

Be your most authentic self. Add layers and over-the-top shapes if your skirt is more on the plain side.

Last, but not least. Switch up the footwear. Nothing says "modern" like adding a pair of sneakers.  Add a lightweight bomber and you are good to go.

White noise

When I was little I owned a pair of white Spice Girl sneakers and let me tell you they were hideous. And then came my first pair of white church shoes and, if it's even possible, they were worse!

As you can imagine I don't exactly have cute memories attached to white shoes. Up until recently though. Now, I know white shoes have often been linked to being either frumpy or granny-ish, but the streets have changed my mind. I have slowly been falling inlove with how bloggers and street style stars have been incorporating white shoes into their looks. It makes me think that a regular ol' girl like me could pull off white shoes just as well. Let's explore.

Top to toe denim looks can border on being boring but, I feel like a white shoe adds an element of chic. It gives the denim such a modern look.

White shoes do not have to be bland . Try a pair with unexpected details to stop it from  looking to "churchy". Zips, frills and sparkles will take your white shoes to a whole new level.

Up until now I have never thought that white boots could look anything but cheap. An over the knee pair looks especially fashion forward. Keep the rest of your look simple so the boots can be the main focus.

As you can see, white shoes go with everything in your closet. From dresses to coats and even boyfriend jeans. It even looks fabulous with a suit.

Trend: Top to toe colour

Are you brave enough to wear one colour top to toe. I certainly wasn't at first. I always thought it looked way too gimmicky or like you are really trying too hard. But as with everything in life; a few expertly styled shoots and a streetstyle look or two and I'm leaning towards experimenting with the trend myself.

Look I'm not talking about incorporating a few colourful pieces into your everyday look. I'm talking about being knee deep in one colour. The kind that you see on street style stars and celebrities in the FROW.

This post was mostly brought on by the fact that I have to wear a uniform to and one that's all navy. I constantly have to find ways to inspire myself. But listen, you can't just throw an outfit together. There are a few tricks to keeping your look sleek and sophisticated. These are not expert tips by any means; just a few pointers that I think you should consider.

Wearing one colour makes you look a whole lot taller so it's perfect for shorter ,petite frames. This is ideal for me since I'm shorter than I would like to be.

A monotone look can border on being boring but, to avoid this, play with different textures. Think about mixing tulle with leather or perhaps lace with silk. Also adding different shades of one colour will elevate your look.

Matching your cover up to your outfit is another way to add sophistication to your ensemble. But be sure to not match your accessories as well. You dont want to look like the monotone monster threw up on you.

Add some sexy to your look by pairing thigh high boots in the same colour as the rest of your outfit.

Keep your accessories and shoes neutral when you add them to your look. You want the look to still be classy and clean.

"This is a man's world..

But it would be nothing without a woman or a girl..."Can you guess which trend I am obsessing over this month. Menswear, although not really a new trend, is invading the fashion world one pinstripe at a time. While some can pull it off without a second thought; for others like me, it might require a little more effort and practice.

The trend allows you to explore masculine style while adding your own individual flair. So if you don't want to wear the trend top to bottom; there are ways to incorporate it into your style, one item at a time. In this post I discuss the menswear trends I am dying to try.

Blazers: This is probably the easiest way to inject a little bit of masculinity into your every day wardrobe. You can wear a blazer over a dress or with a jeans and t-shirt.  A blazer is the ultimate masculine piece. I especially love a sleeveless blazer.

Loafers and brogues: I find loafers and brogues absolutely sexy. There's just something so irresistibly carefree yet controlled about them. In my opinion they look best with tailored pants but, they will add some edge to dresses and skirts as well.

Cigarette pants: Nothing says men's inspired fashion like good tailoring...and well tailored pants are right at the top of the list. I love a pair that sits right above the ankle. I think the hint of skin is quite feminine.

Boyfriend jeans: Boyfriend jeans are the epitome of "borrowed from the boys". It can be dressed down with a t-shirt and flats or glammed up with a leather jacket and some sparkly heels. I love how versatile it is.

Heavenly Bodies: The 2018 MET Gala

It goes without saying that I was excited about the MET Gala this year but, when I discovered what the theme was, I surpassed excitement . The grand affair was held on the first Monday in May (7th) and I, along with the rest of the world, could not wait to see what the red carpet would produce this year.

This year’s theme “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” was perplexing to say the least but, I was sure the stars (at least some of them) would rise to the occasion. And did they ever. For me, the winner of the night was Rihanna in Mason Margiela by John Galliano. Not only did she co-chair the MET gala this year for their 70th anniversary but, she honoured the theme in a way I could not have imagined. No one interprets a theme quite like Riri. Some of my other favourites also include Cara Delevingne, SZA, Cardi B, Zendaya and Lily Collins.

I was also frustrated by a few of the looks. Listen, I am no fashion expert but, when you don’t even try adhering to the theme, what’s the point? This is the one night you get to be over the top and I wish some celebs were not playing it so safe. I’m talking about you Kim Kardashian West. Nevertheless, the night was a marvellous spectacle ( judging by the fashion) and I can’t wait to find what next year’s theme will be.
