Best of The 2016 MET Gala

While the theme of the MET Gala might have some of us scratching our heads (Magnus x Machina: Fashion in an age of technology ) the stars certainly came out guns blazing. I literally couldn't wait to see this year's best and worst dressed.

I have to say that I was thoroughly impressed. Not that I am by any means a fashion guru. It's just that this time around I wasn't bored to tears. While there were some horrible outfits ( ja Selena Gomez); there were tons of amazing,  mind blowing looks. Some of my favourites include Gigi Hadid, Claire Danes and Zendaya to name a few. I figured, since the good outweighed the bad, this post will focus solely on my favourite looks of the 2016 MET Gala.

Kate Hudson
Kim and Kanye both in Balmain
FKA Twiggs
Naomi Campbell in Roberto Cavalli
Future
Karlie Kloss
Willow in Chanel and Haden in Louis Vuitton
Kendall in Versace
Cigars in custom H&
Nicole Kidman in Alexander McQueen
The Weekend and Bella Hadid
Claire Danes in Zac Posen
Zayn in Versace and Gigi in Tommy Hilfiger
Karolina Kurkova
Anna Wintour in Chanel
Poppy Delavingne in Marchesa
Kylie in Balmain

Who has your vote for best dressed at this year's MET Gala?

Life lately : New perspective

It's been a while since I have done my last "life lately" post. Simply because lately life hasn't been the greatest for me. Fear not, this is not a pity party. While I have gone through some of the hardest times this past month, I have also learned some of the best lessons.

I've learned that you can't expect people to be good to you just because you are to them. Not everyone has the same heart. I've learned that no matter how awful life seems, its often not as major as we perceive it to be. That there are others going through way worse situations. When your heart is broken it's easy to forget the countless other things that make you happy. It's a case of tunnel vision and and you only see the pain.

That's why I decided to shift my focus. Just on a day to day basis there are so many things that make me feel good. My beautiful son, my amazing family, my friends and the fact that I have a job. The more I focus on these wonderful things the, less my heart responds to anything that isn't turning me into a better person.

So, perhaps selfishly so, this post is more for me than my readers. A sort of reminder that there is always light at the end of the tunnel. An ode to everything that makes me happy. At the end of the day: its not a perfect life but, it's a good life.

Fashion and getting to dress up puts me in a great mood.

Meaningful and funny quotes brighten up my day.

Details everywhere. I love blogs and instagram accounts that inspire me.

Look post : the dress

I've never been too keen on taking pictures. I'll be the first to admit I am not photogenic. And, while I have grown to be ok with that (my talents lie elsewhere ), I  certainly enjoy seeing look posts on other blogs. Seeing what other people are wearing on a day to day basis is inspiring.

Since I have not yet mustered up the courage to do a regular look post, I have decided to do something slightly different. I wore this outfit to a Sunday lunch recently. I was immediately obsessed with this printed dress the moment I saw it. While it is perfect for summer; I can also wear it in the cooler autumn weather with stockings and a coat.

The shoes and necklace are some of my favourite statement pieces. I love the lace up and suede detail on the shoes and the necklace made me think of those Pichulik necklaces I have been dying to get. The snake skin detail on the side of the bag gives an otherwise very plain bag that wow factor. I cant wait to experiment with all these pieces and find new ways to wear them.

How stunning is this bag!?

A selfie of me in my favourite dress.

If you have posted a look on your blog recently please leave me the link in the comment section. I would love to read it. Other than that, have an amazing day!

Review : Nutri Women Skin Rejuvenation Serum

If you follow me on twitter (@CkoBlog ) you would know how much I have been raving about Nutri Women products. For the past month I have been trying a few of their products and so far I am most impressed with the Skin Rejuvenation Serum.

"Helps reverse signs if ageing. For hydrating, tightening and brightening ". While the packaging is is pretty self explanatory, I have to admit I was not too sure about this serum. Partly because serums have never been a big part of my beauty regime. Nevertheless, I wanted to give it a fair chance and, since I am awful at following through, I was especially diligent with this one.

After a few weeks of using the serum I am happy to the report: the packaging does not lie. My skin is visibly brighter and tighter. I also feel like my skin looks alot less tired (although it could just be wishful thinking).

Nutri Women products are exclusive to Dischem and with a slogan like "beauty from within" I figured it was worth a try.  I use it in conjunction with another Nutri Women day cream but I'll save that for another review. I'm definitely going to continue using this serum.

Have you used any of the Nutri Women products? I would love to hear your thoughts on it.

Style crush :Twinning

I am a firm believer in the power of fashion. There have been days when I have felt at my worst; and a fashion blog or a magazine cheered me up. There have been times when I have been completely uninspired and all it took was an episode of fashion bloggers. Yes, fashion has power indeed.

However, nothing is more strikingly inspiring to me than street style. Seeing how regular ( and some not so regular) people share their ability to turn an idea into a work of art. This is where my most recent style crushes come in. Sisters Cipriana and Takenya Quan. While their style is very cohesive there is also a very strong sense of individual style.  Everything from their manes to their impressive footwear; I love it!

Eye Spy

Finding make up for work can be somewhat daunting for me. Finding a balance between standing out and still looking professional is not some thing that comes easy for me.Lately, however,  that task has become a little less tedious due to the fact that I have found two absolute gems.

*Catrice Intense Eye Wet and Dry eyeshadow.

While this eyeshadow looks extremely gold and a bit much for work: trust me it is not. The gold shimmer is subtle and not at all too flashy for work. I will say I find that, when I wet my brush, application is much easier and the staying power increases. There is also no fall out as opposed when I don't wet my brush. I am thoroughly delighted with this eyeshadow.

080 please gold the line
*Catrice Absolute Eye Colour Quad

You know how annoying it is when you buy a quad and you only use one or two shades in the quad? Yep. This was not the case with this second beauty also from Catrice. I cant remember if that has ever happened to me. This is great for creating neutral daytime looks and also dramatic night out looks.  I also use one shade to highlight and the darkest one to fill in my brows. The fact that I get so much use out of this quad makes it such a winner for me.

090 Before or after eight

*I can't remember how much I paid for either of these.

What do you use to create work appropriate looks? I would love to hear from you.

Life Lately

Hey everyone!

It's been a crazy few weeks for me. From my son starting day care to both my parents turning up ill in one week. Nevertheless, I have managed to not be completely miserable. I hope you enjoy the post. If I'm not following you on instagram leave your handle in the comments section below.
